Why Moms Should Celebrate Easter Every Day of the Year

We attempt to practice some version of attachment-based or trust-based parenting (like what is presented in The Connected Child).

There are days that I feel like a parenting rock star.  I am patient and use creative strategies to teach appropriate behavior in ways that leave my boy feeling loved.

Today was not one of those days.  I yelled.  I had no patience when my precious toddler tried to climb the stairs, take a bone from one of our dogs, or flush a sock down the toilet of our brand new house.

My hope is that this blog encourages you to look to Christ in all aspects of your life, particularly in parenting.  In reality, looking to Christ is not easy.  Read what I said about this on my Instagram.  I think it should be fairly obvious that I was not doing the greatest job giving Jesus my rapt attention today.

And yet, I find myself this evening feeling not only peace but joy.

Because of Easter,

“in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”  “For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God…” (Ephesians 2:13, 18-19 ESV)

Although these passages are specifically talking about the Gentiles, people who had absolutely no access to God, now being made citizens of God’s kingdom and members of His household, they also reveal glorious truths for you right now, mama.

When you fail to live your life like a daughter of God, finding yourself attempting to follow your own plans, feeling selfish, or striving to be in control of everything around you, remember and celebrate Easter.

On the cross, Christ brought you back into a restored relationship with your Father.

When you screw things up, you can, as Michael Johnson says,

“…repent and confess your sin, not in a cowering posture, but humbly and boldly remembering that Christ’s finished atoning and justifying work for his people (a message we joyfully proclaim to the whole world) isn’t something we celebrate exclusively on Easter Sunday.”

Yes, celebrate Easter, but don’t stop celebrating the morning after.  Let Easter Sunday transform each and every day of your life.

C.J. Mahaney wrote a short, but brilliant book entitled, Living the Cross Centered Life: Keeping the Gospel the Main Thing.  In it, he says,

“Do you want to live a cross centered life? A cross centered life is made up of cross centered days.”

Every day, remind yourself of what Christ accomplished on the cross.  Remember who you were before and who you are now as a beloved adopted daughter of God.  When you fail to live out that calling, don’t forget that Easter impacts your current and future failures.

You have full access to the Father.  Rejoice in this truth! Mama, you have the immense privilege of being able to approach Him when you feel like a parenting rockstar and when you are drinking hours old coffee while yelling at your kids.

Celebrate Easter today, no matter what day it is or what your situation looks like.  Come to Him with gratitude and a contrite spirit and you will find joy immeasurable.

What Do You Think?

How does Easter transform your everyday?  What verses do you like to meditate on to remind yourself of the work of Christ on the cross?
